Reading History

Well, reading isn’t really my thing. But, I do it here and there. I am currently at a 11th grade reading level because I can read very well; I just don’t enjoy it that much. Right now, when I do read, it is mostly like magazines and things of that nature.

When I was younger, my parents started to teach me how to read. So, by the time I got to kindergarten I already knew how to read. Books I remember reading in kindergarten are things like; color books, Dr. Seuss, and those fun little find it books. I guess you could say that I was kind of advanced because they wanted to skip me up a grade! I think that came from my parents helping me every day after school before sending me outside.
When I got to Blackwood Elementary, English was still pretty easy for me. I read books by authors like; Luis Sachar, and Barbara Park. I loved Junie B. Jones! Also, Maniac Magee and all the Luis Sachar books. That’s what got me liking comedy books. I always kept a pretty high grade in English in elementary.

When I starting walking the halls of Glen Landing, that’s when things got a little tough. We started reading mote complicated books like; The Giver, The Pearl, and other challenging books. However, I found my favorite book in sixth grade; The Pin balls by Betsy Byars. I kind of had problems with staying on a reading schedule.

Coming into CCTS, English was easy. Although, I have had problems with symbolism in books like Speak and A Perfect Snow, I do pretty well still in English. It’s not my favorite subject but it is a requirement so I try my best.

Honestly, I don’t really see myself having a career in English. But, I do enjoy comedy books because they can make me smile when I’m having a bad day. And, I like suspense because they are page turners just like life. You think you know what’s going to happen but then it’s another day or another page and it’s something totally different!

As of right now, reading still isn’t that exciting to me. The most reading I do is on social networks or magazines. I really don’t enjoy reading books, but I will do what I have to do to pass English 3. Books aren’t really exciting to me, that’s why I don’t read as much as I should. I do the requirements in school, that’s about it. You won’t catch me actually reading a book that isn’t for school. That’s really the only educational reading I do.
